Apple now owns iPhone.com

Apple acquired the domain iphone.com from the previous owner Michael Kovatch.

Michael Kovatch registered the domain back in 1995. The source claims that Michael was holding out because he truly wanted to use the domain.

He was building a company named “The Internet Phone Company”.

The price was not disclosed, estimates are that at least a million dollar transaction occurred.

Michael Kovatch thought that the internet would allow telephone calls one day and that is why he registered iPhone.com

Now www.iphone.com points to the Apple.com/iphone section.

iPhones are destined to be a smash success worldwide. For those of you that don’t have one, here’s a simple way to keep abreast of the latest buzz on iPhones.

On ANY wap enabled cell phone browser, simply enter the numeric-domain equivalent of the word ‘iPhone’, which is 474663. Add .com and press ‘send’, ‘call’, ‘go’ etc.

Enter 474663.com

Cheers
